The Print is the Poem: Inside the Making of Our Signature Surfaces

Before it’s a garment, it’s a thought. A colour. A brushstroke. A mood.

In our world at Yavï, clothing doesn’t begin on a pattern board — it sometimes begins with a painting.
Our signature prints don’t follow trends. They are first painted — by hand — in our studio, where fabric is a canvas and fashion becomes a medium for storytelling.

That’s what makes our aesthetic so distinct. It’s not about motifs. It’s about impression — the feeling of a sky turning from dusk to night, or a memory surfacing in fragments. Each print carries the softness of something half-remembered, fully felt.

“When I’m painting for a garment, I’m not thinking about design,” says our founder, Yadvi Agarwal.
“I’m thinking about movement, about mood. When we print it onto fabric, it transforms — but the feeling always stays.”

From Studio to Silhouette

It starts with a brush. Watercolours, ink washes, and loose sketchwork — our studio is filled with spontaneous gestures and layered textures. Some prints emerge from a fleeting thought; others from long-held memories, sketchbooks, or vintage archives.

We gently digitise the art, preserving its nuance, then print onto our favourite textiles — cupro cotton, silk habutai, voile. The result? Painterly surfaces that move like they were always meant for fabric. Nothing flat, nothing harsh — just tone on tone, colour bleeding into colour, like shifting weather.

In our Vivid Winds collection, this visual poetry flows freely. The Rumi Jacket is printed in soft rust and plum tones — hand-rendered and layered with restraint. It doesn’t shout for attention, but when noticed, it stays with you.
The Vase Story Shirt, with its ink-drawn motifs and pigment washes, captures quiet domestic stillness — a brush in a jar, a shadow on a table.

When Print Becomes Purpose

Our prints don’t exist for decoration. They’re the emotional starting point — and the clothes are designed to honour their rhythm.

The Petal Slip Dress, printed in dusky ink florals, is a study in softness. The placement guides the eye, elongates the form, and moves with the wearer’s breath. Nothing is overworked. Negative space is intentional. Each fold lets the print unfold — as if you’re wearing a poem that doesn’t need words.

The goal is always to evoke without excess. To allow space — for you to breathe, to move, to remember.

The Surface is Our Story

For us at Yavï, a print is never just a visual. It’s the heart of the garment — a memory painted in colour.
From studio to silhouette, our pieces are layered with feeling, crafted with intention, and designed to move through your life like a breeze through open windows.

Whether it’s the Rumi Jacket that feels like a monsoon sketch or a hand-pleated cupro dress with echoes of a fading sky, every surface tells a story.
And once worn — it becomes yours.
